Akshaya Tritiya is a holy festival and one of the auspicious days in whole of the year of Hindu calendar. Akshaya Tritiya is celebrated mainly by Hindu and Jain community people. Akshaya Tritiya falls on the Indian month of Vaishakh and is a third lunar day of Sukla paksha (bright fortnight). Akshaya Tritiya is a bright day on which both sun and moon glow in excitement. According to Hindu mythology, on this day the Treta Yuga began; and the Ganges River, the most holy and sacred river of India, descended to the earth from the heaven. Akshaya Tritiya is the day on which Lord Parusurama, the sixth incarnation of Lord Vishnu, was born. Puranas spoke about how he reclaimed the land from the sea and it was a great historical belief. The Sun and Moon are astrologically believed to be at their most exalted equal brightness on this day. The brightness is at its best on the west coast of India. Goa and Konkan regions, even today, are referred to as Parusurama Kshetra. On this day, people do fasting in reverence to Lord. Also they worship Lord Vasudeva with rice grains. Akshaya Tritiya is the day on which it is believed that Ved Vyasa started with the narration of great epic ‘Mahabharatham’. On this day of Akshaya Tritiya, Maharishi Veda Vyas along with Lord Ganesha started writing the great epic Mahabharata. Consequently on the same day began the Golden era for the residents on Earth.
